Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – A swift ride up the hills of approximately 70 km towards Kandy can take you to visit the ‘Orphaned’ Elephants of the ‘wild’ at Pinnawela, where they are tamed, fed & cared for and to watch them sway down the road to their way to a daily bath that they take in the nearby Mahaweli River.

This is a treat for the eyes as the baby Elephants make use of the water to play, dance & have fun with the others, as the kids find it hilarious.

Ramboda Falls – Yet another scenic & misty waterfall formed out of the precipitation absorbed by the mighty hills higher up on the top parts of the Central Hills in the Kirigalpoththa, Thotupola, Wangedigala (Volcano Crater Rock), Ohiya & Horton Plains regions.

Lake Gregory – A picturesque lake surrounded by the mountain ranges of Pidurutalagala, Single Tree Hills & Mahagastota ranges in the Nuwara Eliya & vicinity. Landscaped by the British Colonials to be not only beautiful but also to store & water the numerous Parks, Race Course and Golf Course and the Fruit, Vegetable & cash crop cultivation of the Hill Country.

Victoria Park – A Flowery park immaculately landscaped to attract the kids & families to play & admire the nature of distinct vegetation of the higher altitudes in order to carry memories of the intricate nature of the flowers, plants, pine, acacia, turpentine, eucalyptus & numerous other evergreens which grow wild in the Central Hills

Seetha Amman Hindu Temple – A Hindu Temple to commemorate the deities of the Ramayana, where it is believed that Sita the queen of Rama was exiled by Ravana the King of Lanka where the test of fire was conducted to determine the faith of Sita as an example for the subjects to learn desirable morals of life.

Edwardian Post Office – Medieval Brick Architecture of the British has been recreated in the heart of the township of Nuwara Eliya, where the pioneering forms of communication, the telegraph & telex message transfers were conducted, as they were discovered in the western countries to add to the original mail of letters between societies which took place back in the olden days

Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya – An ancient Buddhist Temple located in a northern suburb where Lord Buddha had visited during his lifetime to find tranquility & harmony, to be silent in the presence of the now, in order to meditate and be in the presence where he found peaceful vibes. It was the serene environment which attracted Buddha to sit still in order to silence his mind. This temple was built here in order to mark the occasion of Buddha’s visit, so you may want to enjoy sightseeing. The remarkable architecture awaits the discerning.

Gangarama Viharaya – An ancient Buddhist Temple of the Reign of the Kotte Kingdom located across the ‘Beira Lake’ of the Capital Colombo. A ‘Pirivena’ education (Early Buddhist Literacy Program) program was found to be taking place in this temple, prior to the arrival of the Colonialists who used the waterways & the lake in the surrounding area for purposes of trade and setting up of colonial education, transport, commerce, administration etc.

Manning Market – A Dutch styled Marketplace for commerce, to house stalls to buy & sell fruit, vegetables, spices & other provisions, later maintained by the British administration. This market was connected with tram cars on the roads to Hultfsdorp, Fort and other parts of Colombo during the colonial times when it somehow appeared like a town of a western country at the time.

Colombo Fort – Fort was the Administrative fortification of the Colonial masters of ‘Ceylon’, with the Queen’s House, Parliament, Coastal Defense Establishments, Clock Tower, Banks, General Post Office, Telegraph Office, The Central Bank, & other International Business buildings are located with the distinct architecture of the former Dutch & British administrations. It is still a bustling commercial and banking center of modern day Colombo.

BMICH – Convention Center which stands for Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, initiated by Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike (1st Woman Prime Minister)

Built in the 70’s to enable Sri Lanka’s participation with the International Community in finding ways to cooperate with multilateral countries in finding peace, international cooperation, learning, understanding, research, development, technology & spiritual exchanges,

Independence Square – A public space where a Monument was built in 1948 to mark the occasion of regaining the independence of the reign of power from the previous Colonial Administrators back to locally elected leaders in order to administer the Island. The distinct architecture resembles the ‘Ambalama’ – transitory shelter ( signifying simplicity or the temporary abode of human life in impermanence )

The Galle Face Green – an esplanade located south of the Port City & adjacent to the Old Parliament is an open air recreation blue-green space to relax especially in the evening. Soft blowing or a comfortable squall is always there to cool off a tiring day of activities. A true blue green space attracts the perceptive enthusiast, especially tired workers, travelers, parents with kids & families to chill.

Old Parliament Building – House of Commons built by the British to resemble the architecture of the ‘Acropolis of Athens’ in Greece, finding it too small for a growing Leadership, it is now used as the President’s Secretariat & Office.
